DMX began to rap from the mid 1990s. In May 1998 He released his first album called It's Dark and HOT. DMX released other albums such as... and There Was X and Great Depression Year of the Dog... Redemption of the Beast, Grand Champ. In 2001, his album was titled... and There was X was awarded the Grammy nomination in the category of Best Rap Album. Aside from his musical pursuits, he also starred in films including Lords of the Street Belly Top Five Exit Wounds will Never die by yourself The Bleeding Romeo Muse Die Backstage in the background of the Law Lockjaw Rising of the Kulev Serpent and Fast and Fierce Death Race.
